Kaylie and I had been good friends since Grade 1. Whenever we had a break, we hung out together. And the more time we spent together, the more we realized how amazingly alike we were. We both liked baking extra-creative cookies, we both had awesome (and sometimes annoying) younger siblings, and we both have the same favorite song and even animal — dolphin.
Last summer, we went to the Arts and Crafts Fair in our park. There were so many things to see. We didn’t know where to begin. We had fun walking around the rows and rows of art booths, clothing racks and kick knack tables. I found the best polka-dot hat, but it cost too much. Kaylie fell in love with a yo-yo, but she looked at the price tag, and yup — it cost too much! To tell you the truth, we were starting to get discouraged. Just as we were about to give up on finding anything we could afford, we came to a table with gobs of gorgeous bracelets (手链). “These are so cool,” I said, picking up one with moons and stars. “And look, they’re in my price range!”
“Please try anything on. The beads (珠子) come from Thailand, and I string each bracelet with love. My name is Tex,” the jeweler said with a friendly smile. Then at the same moment, we both saw it! A bracelet with colorful beads shone brightly in the light, including two pink beads in the shape of dolphin, which added a playful touch to the design. It was the only bracelet like it on the table. Reaching for the bracelet together, we asked Tex if he possibly had any more dolphin bracelets just like this. To our disappointment, that was the last one.
